An evening with Mr.Burgoo

30 Dec

We celebrated New Years Eve at my Aunt and Uncles house. My cousin Alex cooked a pot of Kentucky Burgoo over an open flame. Burgoo is a meaty stew with different variations throughout the world. Kentucky Burgoo generally consists of several meats, cabbage, potato, carrots etc. Alex’s version had  deer, chicken and pork. It was tasty! First time I’ve had it. The tshirt photo is a little joke for Alex…..did I mention Burgoo takes ALL day to cook!

I found a hard crusty bread recipe at this website, http://www.peterandrewryan.com/baking/2008/11/european-peasant-bread/

It turned out nice and was a great sopping bread with the stew.

The weather was awesome, the kids ran and played hard outside until late in the night, and we rang in the New Year at my cousin Tralese’s house. Hello 2012!
